Geez!

I sneezed on the bus (covered my nose and said excuse me after) and this 3 or 4-year old girl sitting next to me turned her head and glared at me (and frowned!!) for a good 5 seconds.

Am I missing something here???

Still floating...

My 2-week old balloon is still surviving!!! Tied it to my chair so it feels like I'm sitting in one of those kid's supermarket trolleys when I'm studying. Genius!

Days I look forward to :)

Clogged...

Brain matter scattered all over like there's no tomorrow. Seriously debating on giving up.
This will mark the very first exam that I have failed in my entire life.

Also constantly craving for spicy food. As in Sichuan spicy. Hmmmm yuuuuum

Oriental madness

Just remember this while I was supposed to be studying hard....

Lunch one day:
Friend: Did you know 李白 was born in Kazakhstan?
Me: He whaat?
Friend: Hells yeh he's like Borat!
Me: *gasp*

I didn't believe him so I looked up Wikipedia and damn, he is rumoured to be born in either Kazakhstan or Sichuan, China.

Me: OMG one of the most famous poets in the Chinese history is not Chinese?!
Friend: *laughs hysterically*

By the time we were walking back to our offices, I had to hit my friend really hard.
Me: Why did you have to tell me this? I don't have anyone to share it with! (Reason being my local friends probably don't know who Borat is and my English friends won't know who 李白 is)
Friend: Yep that's why I told you.
Me: Who am I gonna tell this to???!! @&*#^@(*^&!( *hits him a few more times*

So, if anyone out there knows about these 2, omg go wiki it and see for yourself! HE IS LIKE BORAT!

The Fannings

Dakota and Elle Fanning on the cover of W Magazine for the December 2011 issue dressed in Valentino gowns. Daaaaayum! So freaking beautiful I have no words at the moment. Still can't believe they're so young.

Dude vs chap...

At the bus terminal located in TST East

Came across this sign at a bus stop while I was lost trying to find my way to the restaurant last night. It's interesting how Hong Kong adopts British English everywhere (well, not surprised given that it has been a colony of the UK for almost a century). From the announcements made on the subways (my sister ADORES the lady's voice, and of course, her accent) to the spellings in formal documents (my firm has this yes 's', no 'z' policy, as in 'realised' is good but not 'realized').

I spent half of my childhood in Hong Kong and the other half in Canada. So neither my Chinese or English is up to par with a legit native. Anyhow, this "Alighting only" sign has stirred up some curiosity as I have never even seen this word in my whole life.

Thought it was one of those moments where my English sucked. Asked Canadian friend #1, #2 and #3 and guess what, none of them have seen this word either!

Friend #2: It has to be British.
Me: Why?
Friend #2: I just assume every word I don't know/haven't seen to be British. You won't go wrong with this assumption. At least 99% of the time.
Me: *pauses then inserts punch and name calling i.e. douche*

So friend #2 and I looked up the word while waiting in line for food today and according to dictionary.com...

a·light

1 [uh-lahyt]  Show IPA
verb (used without object), a·light·ed or a·lit, a·light·ing.
1.
to dismount from a horse, descend from a vehicle, etc.
2.
to settle or stay after descending: The bird alighted on the tree.
3.
to encounter or notice something accidentally.

The horse came first! *gasp*
Is "alight" even British?!

There was another time where me and a bunch of friends were discussing about, surprise surprise, the American and British accents. We're probably biased since our social circle consists of North Americans. And yes, we're those who make our new British friends say 'Harry Potter'. ;) BUT, friend #3 did raise a good point. He was saying how when we listen to an English song, we don't notice anything different (which we automatically assume it's North American since, no offense, the British accent does seem a little off to us) until the singer says something at the end (e.g. thank you) and makes you go like "Wow she's British!" I had that exact moment listening to Adele performing live. Hypothesis: if their songs sounded 'normal' to us, does this make the American accent 'normal' too?

I hope nobody gets offended by this, it's just a random rant on perspective. Okie gotta head back to studying now. Exam on Saturday grr!

Christmas lights

Christmas lights are already up by mid-November and I've had my final round of birthday celebrations (lasted for 3 weeks this year!). How I love hanging out with dear old friends for a laughable night. Makes your worries go away for a few hours. The picture above was chosen from a series of silly jumping shots me and a friend were doing. Definitely looked like I was pushing her down in order to lift myself higher ;)

Then there is the part of me that wished this particular person was still around to say happy birthday to me. Impossible in every way but I'm sure he's somewhere out there looking out for me.

White flags

What to do when you start working on past exams and you're getting an accuracy rate of maybe 5%?
Do you start waving those nice white flags now??
Zomg.

Decision time

Source: weheartit

I've been saying that I want a tattoo for some time, except I don't know what I want, and where I want it. Let alone the traumatizing thought of being poked by needles over and over again, as if blood donation wasn't bad enough.

So my dream the other night was set in a tattoo parlor. The ambience was dim with framed artwork/patterns all over the walls. Not to mention the neon "tattoo" signage on the windows, just like the one in Hangover 2 (given that it's the latest movie that I've watch with a tattoo parlor in it). There I was, lying on the bed, frantically flipping through the catalogue in hope of searching for something that made me inspired. The artist adjusted his sitting posture, with the needles in hand, ready to poke them into my skin.

I started screaming because the artist was leaving me no time to make up my mind. Then I woke up. Wonder if this is a sign that I should put this thought on hold......

Fall incidents

I love fall weather, the chill breeze and what not.
But it also acts as a hint that dry season is coming up and all those non-sense cuts will slowly creep up on you again.
Grrr.

Reminder

5 of these gianormous mosquito bites reminding me I gotta wake up early to study.
How appropriate...

Craze

I'm not a chocolate person, but then there are times when the crave kicks in.
Combined with an unfortunate/frustrating event at work, walk into a 7-11 and 5 seconds later, all happy again!

Seasonal chocolates from 7-11!

3am dim sum!

Gotta love hong kong!

Butao!

The soup base was yuuuuum! Would be even better if someone else was to volunteer for that one-hour line up ;)
